Deep thinking rooted in truth
The inner strength to master oneself
The wisdom to connect and communicate with all
Education that prizes human intellect and experience has its limit, for human thinking inevitably bends to the times and circumstances. In an age, where right and wrong blur, that limit becomes undeniable. LEM’s deep thinking is the pursuit of the truth that never changes. Anchored in God’s wisdom and unshaken by shifting tides, our students gain the insight to discern the world. This is the realm of wisdom that conventional instruction can never reach.
Character built solely on human willpower will inevitably reveal its limits in times of crisis. Yet students who acknowledge their own weakness and connect to “the heart of God” do not yield, even amid hardship. Leadership shaped by deep thinking that reaches beyond the self is the true foundation of the “courageous leadership”, the kind that changes the world, embodied by Abraham Lincoln.
Modern psychology regards human willpower as a “depletable resource.” Under constant temptation and pressure, that energy runs dry — and we eventually lose the ability to control ourselves. Education that drives students to restrain themselves through relentless self-pressure leaves them feeling empty and powerless. True self-control begins with acknowledging “one’s own weakness.” Students come to recognize a deeper truth: good and evil do not merely coexist within us; rather, “we hold only the desire for good, yet lack the power to do true good, and so are inevitably drawn toward evil.” Freed from the exhausting effort to suppress the evil within their own strength, they receive a power that comes from above. This “strength” lies beyond what conventional education can produce.
The impulses and turmoil of adolescence can never be governed by fragile willpower. When one attains the heart of God through “deep thinking”, a strong “self-control” capable of mastering one’s desire arises naturally. Only students with this strong self-control can become “victors within” overcoming their cravings and governing themselves in a world full of addiction and temptation.
Conventional global-citizenship education preaches “love and compassion,” but for students with no source to draw that love from, it becomes just another moral demand they cannot meet. Exchange carried out while harboring evil and selfishness inevitably turns to conflict when interests collide; love springing from human willpower cannot be sustained. LEM’s exchange begins with admitting we lack the power to love our neighbor fully. Recognizing our own insufficiency, we receive boundless love through vertical communication with God and share it through horizontal harmony with others. This exchange with our neighbor, and ultimately an education connected to God, is the very essence of the change that conventional education could never achieve.
Education connected through this life-giving exchange goes beyond the mere acquisition of nowledge; it becomes the fundamental power to practice goodness, both in the classroom and in life. It establishes an inner order that remains unshaken for a lifetime and transforms character at its very core, becoming the most powerful essence of education itself.
